Troubleshooting Troubleshooting differs for each machine. However, the objective is basically the same- to make sure that sound is routed from the Microphone to the Mac's sound input port. Obviously, the first thing to do is make sure the Microphone is plugged in! (Consult your Macintosh Owners Manual.) Checking connections in System 7... (Note: Diagrams may differ in appearance on your Mac. Go with the flow!) Select Microphone as the desired input source. (You may have chosen a CD player as your desired input device.) First, open the Sound Control Panel. (Control Panels can be found under the Apple Menu.) Select 'Sound In' from the popup menu, then click 'Options...'. ◊ Now, click the icon that resembles a Microphone. If you're using a Macintosh with a Built In Microphone, chances are you won't experience any trouble running Perfect Pitch programs. However, if you have a second-party recording device (MacRecorder, etc.) there are a few extra steps to ensure microphone readiness. 1) Make sure the microphone icon for your device is selected in the Control Panel under Sound. If the icon does not appear, contact the manufacturer for a sound input driver upgrade. (It should be free.) 2) Make sure the recording device is connected and turned on. Check that cables are physically connected. 3) Check the serial port connection. Most external devices use one of the serial ports to communicate. Connect the cable from the device to one of the serial ports, then choose the Options dialog from the Sound Control Panel to match the port you've chosen. 4) Check the version number of the Sound Driver for your device. Early versions of most sound drivers are not fully Macintosh compatible. The manufacturer should provide you with a free upgrade. Here are some current version numbers... MacRecorder v1.0.3 Voice Link/Impact Pro - v2.2b9 5) If you have trouble following this procedure, you probably have an outdated sound input driver.
